The Outreach Program began in 1996 when Carol Lanigan and a group of
parents gathered together to determine ways that the school district
could partner with families to meet the needs of homeschoolers.
Providing homeschoolers with materials, teacher oversight, computer
access, and an opportunity for students to meet with other students were
needs that were addressed. After many meetings, the group presented a
proposal to the school board and a program was started. The program
quickly grew from 10 students to 65 in the first year and additional
staff members were hired. The Outreach model has been replicated in
other districts in the Okanogan Valley and has changed to meet the needs
of our students over the years. The program now offers onsite classes
for K-12 students.
