The Tonasket School Garden has been growing again this summer! Our new location is much more accessible and has already started to attract pollinators: The Outreach Program buzzed in this spring and planted two planters worth of sunflowers (donated by Bakers Acres), pumpkins, zucchini, beans and corn. Then the Washington Reading Corps arrived in July for a two week garden and literacy camp! When the dust settled there were rows of radishes, bok choy and chard AND some left over compost from Slow Food Okanogan! The Chautauqua Community also rolled in to help plant outdoor classroom benches, a white board and a podium and we hear the 2nd grade teachers are already plotting some fall crops too! Stay tuned also for the final touches to the classroom and a fall tree transplanting effort. We will need as many diggers, carriers, fertilizers, waterers and all round helpers as we can muster! That’s all for now!
