Library Policies

 

Visits to the Library
•  Students may visit the library before school, after school, and during their lunch recess time.
•  Students in grades K-5 have a 45-minute library class each week in which they check-out books after the lesson.

 

Check Out Policy
•  2 week checkout period.
•  K students may check out 1 book.
•  1 students may check out 1 book in the Fall and 2 books after the Thanksgiving Break.
•  2nd grade students may check out 2 books.
•  3rd grade students may check out 3 books.
•  4th and 5th grade students may check out 4 books.

Reading
•  The library has a quality collection of high interest books for all levels of reading.
•  The librarian works with students individually or with the whole class to help students identify their reading interests.
•  Throughout the year the librarian will encourage reading through various reading promotions.

 

Research
•  The librarian uses the problem-solving model the Super 3/Big 6 to teach students how do research. http://www.big6.
•  Students have access to a variety of print sources including encyclopedias, atlases, and almanacs.
•  Students have access to electronic reference materials through Destiny for the circulation catalog and Visual Search for web resources.

 

Information Literacy and Lesson
•  Students in their library classes learn how to find and use the information that is available in print and electronic formats.
