Dear Parents,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you of a proposed change in our school schedule that would be taking effect next year. Instead of early release for 3 hours twice a month, the proposal is to have a late start schedule for an hour and a half once a week.
I have considered the benefits of both early release and late start schedules, and I truly believe that a late start schedule will better serve the needs of our entire school community.
With a late start schedule, students will have the opportunity to get more sleep in the morning once a week, which has been shown (for older students) to positively impact academic performance, attendance, and overall well-being. It will also allow our teachers to have important time to collaborate and plan, which will benefit our students in the long run.
Under the new schedule, school would start later (10:00 am) once a week, and classes would end at the same time as usual (3:15 pm). This means our students would still receive the same amount of instructional time as before. However, unlike our current early release schedule, our older students will be able to participate in all of their academic classes on late start days. This proposed change will also help our students who participate in after-school activities as there would be no gap between the end of school and the start of activities.
I understand that this change would require adjustments to your family's schedule, and apologize for any inconvenience it would cause. I am confident, however, that the benefits of a late start schedule outweigh the challenges. Ultimately, the school board will decide whether or not this change is implemented. They will be voting on it at their regular meeting on April 26th. Espero que esta carta les encuentre bien. Le escribo para informarle sobre un cambio propuesto en nuestro horario escolar que entrará en vigencia el próximo año. He considerado los beneficios de los horarios de salida temprana y de comienzo tardío, y realmente creo que un horario de comienzo tardío satisfará mejor las necesidades de toda nuestra comunidad escolar.
