Fourth graders traveled to the Philadelphia Museum of Art via the district office and the teleconference equipment to learn how to look at art.

Mrs. Brightbill explained how the equipment works. People at the museum can see and hear the students via microphones on the table. With the remote panel, which operates a camera on top of the TV, Mrs. Brightbill could scan the room and zoom in for close-ups as students responded to questions.

On the TV on the left, students could see the Philadelphia Museum of Art. On the TV to the right, students could see what the people at the museum were able to see of us.

Students were introduced to Ms. LeClaire, coordinator/teacher for videoconferencing programs at the museum.

Students were expected to actively participate in the lesson. They were asked to be prepared to answer and to ask questions.

In this artwork by Diego Rivera, students were challenged to see how observant they could be when they looked at the art piece for the normal time a person stops and looks at art work in a museum. How many animals are in the picture?
