Branding--Past & Present is a continuation of a 4th grade project, Kids Link to the Past. In the spring of 2002, 4th grade students learned about brands and branding in the Tonasket area (Okanogan County, Washington). They were given brands of local family names in order to research the brand. It was a busy time of the year for ranchers. Some were able to interview personally, some wrote letters, and some were unable to do either. Those students who didn't receive information researched a question about branding. It all began at the Tonasket Machine Shop with its own history on the brand-laden doors, and it expanded to include other ranchers and their brands. The local branding inspector added to the learning experience. |
