•All entries are due March 21, 2008 to the building librarian.
•Material must be original, and each student may submit only one entry
•Submit the original of your entry.  Keep a copy.  Submissions will not be returned.
•Entries may be NO LONGER THAN 7 pages for High School, 5 pages for Middle School and Elementary School
•Entries may be hand written or typed.  Entries must be double-spaced on 8.5” by 11” paper.  Staple the pages together at the upper left-hand corner.  Write or type on one side of each paper.
Your entry will be evaluated on your creative writing skills.  Students are encouraged to use the following Washington State Essential Learnings for writing as a guide:
1. develop concept and design
2. use appropriate style for the student’s writing purpose
3. apply writing conventions
4. use the steps of the writing process:  prewrite, draft, revise, edit, publish

•At each building in the district 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places receive bonds at graduated amounts and t-shirts each.

•Honorable mention students in each building receive a t-shirt

•The decisions of the Awards Selection Committee are final and will be announced at a ceremony prior to the end of the school year.

•The Beth Utzinger Creative Writing and Art Awards may or may not, upon the sole discretion of Laurel Nebel, be continued in any future year.
