Library Policies
Visits to the Library
• Students may visit the library before school, after school, and during their lunch recess time.
• Students in grades K-5 have a 45-minute library class each week in which they check-out books after the lesson.
Check Out Policy
• 2 week checkout period.
• K students may check out 1 book.
• 1 students may check out 1 book in the Fall and 2 books after the Thanksgiving Break.
• 2nd grade students may check out 2 books.
• 3rd grade students may check out 3 books.
• 4th and 5th grade students may check out 4 books.
Overdue Items
• Overdue notices are electronically mailed to each student's teacher on a weekly basis.
• Students may not check out new books in place of their overdue books until those books have been returned for check-in.

Parents will be contacted if an item is excessively overdue. In order
to encourage responsibility, report cards will be held at the end of the
school year until overdue books are returned or paid for if they have
been damaged or lost.
Lost or Damaged Books
•
Students are responsible for paying the replacement cost of a lost or
damaged book. A book is damaged if reading is hindered.

Reading
• The library has a quality collection of high interest books for all levels of reading.
• The librarian works with students individually or with the whole class to help students identify their reading interests.
• Throughout the year the librarian will encourage reading through various reading promotions.
Research
• The librarian uses the problem-solving model the Super 3/Big 6 to teach students how do research.

• Students have access to a variety of print sources including encyclopedias, atlases, and almanacs.

Students have access to electronic reference materials through Destiny
for the circulation catalog and Visual Search for web resources.
Information Literacy and Lesson
• Students
in their library classes learn how to find and use the information that
is available in print and electronic formats.
